Message from Imam Anver
Dear Community Members,
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
We hope and pray that you and your families are keeping well. This month we have several pieces of great news to share with the community.
Queensway Carleton Hospital: As we know, our healthcare facilities play a critical role in providing and maintaining essential services when we get sick. The Muslim community is an integral part of this system and must step up when requests for support are made, especially for identified projects lacking provincial funding. Therefore, this month, we have raised and donated $5,000 to Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation. Through your support, by the will of Allah, we intend to expand our contribution going forward.
Year-end Donation Before December 31: As we are expecting to secure building permit for our next project of 6 townhomes at the 572 Moodie location, we must raise the required funds through Allah’s help and your continued participation. In order to qualify for tax receipt for 2023, please ensure that your contributions are delivered before the year end. Together, inShaAllah we will achieve the success.
Small Group Sessions: We are looking into organizing small group sessions for those who are interested to find suitable candidates for marriage purpose. Any one who is interested, please contact the office and provide the name and age range so we may pull in right candidates for effective initial engagement. Please forward this information to anyone who might benefit from this initiative. At this point, possible age groups being considered are: 20-30, 30-35 and 35-45 years.
With salaam,
Imam Anver Malam

Winter Lessons
(Adapted with slight changes from: Gift of Jumu’ah by Imam Mohammed Badat)
The quick passing of days and changing seasons – one after the other – contains important lessons for the one who desires to take heed or be grateful to Allah. It is essential for the intelligent person to take heed of lessons, take account of themselves, and think about what lies ahead.
It is He Who made the Night and the Day to follow each other: for the one who desires to take heed or to show their gratitude.(25:62)
The Winter season has its fair share of snowfall and cold temperatures. This serves as a reminder of the bitter cold of the hellfire.
Hellfire complained to its Lord saying, ‘O my Lord! My different parts have consumed each other. ‘So, Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in winter and the other in summer. The most intense heat you feel is from the extreme heat of the hell fire and the most bitter cold you feel is from the extreme cold of the hellfire. (Bukhari)
Therefore, one of the important lessons regarding winter is a reminder of the extreme cold of the hellfire. This prompts us to seek refuge with Allah from it and stay away from actions that bring us closer to it. May Allah grant us all His protection.
Winter is an enjoyable time for a Believer. The companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم were happy with the approach of winter due to them finding enjoyment in obeying Allah and worshipping Him during that season. Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, wou
“We welcome the winter, During it, blessings descend, the night is long for prayer, and the day is short for fasting.”
From the many excellent deeds, we can do in these wintery days is to thank Allah for the winter provisions which he has provided us with such as heated homes, winter coats, boots, , jackets, gloves, winter hat, and other winter gear etc. to keep ourselves warm.
We must also remember that there are people in many places of the world who are suffering from the cold, snow, and lack of winter supplies. They live in tents, camps or even out in the open. We have many people in various parts of the world who are refugees and who have been displaced or expelled from their homes.
Accordingly, one of the virtuous deeds a person can do in winter to get closer to Allah is helping the homeless and poor. With many of them battling against the bitterness of winter without ample clothing, food, and shelter, each Muslim family should aim to provide for at least one underprivileged family during winter and help alleviate their suffering.
